PAL Online Learning

Dear parents,

We are excited to begin our online journey. We are sure that, as Graded teachers, as well as our students and parents, we will continue to learn and have fun together and successfully.
As already shared by the school, our schedule foresees that PAL tasks for the week will be posted every Monday, at 1 pm, in your children's Google Classrooms - the same as their homerooms' Google Classrooms.
My suggestion is that students do a little bit of PAL activities each day - 10 to 15 minutes a day. Therefore guidance on what to do will be given by the teacher every Monday, and the students will work with the PAL activities throughout the week.
The PAL / LS teachers will not hold online meetings, but we will use the Elefante Letrado reading platform (which allows us to assign readings and tasks to students and monitor their performance in them), as well as Flipgrid, a platform for oral tasks, assignment of written tasks, stories and others. Students already have their passwords to access both platforms, and they are not new to students.
The PAL / LS teachers are deeply thankful for your partnership,  and we are available for any questions by email:
PAL 2nd - Dona Nati  - natalia.forattini@graded.br;
PAL 3rd - Dona Carla - carla.ramalho@graded.br
PAL 4th - Dona Nati   - natalia.forattini@graded.br;

PAL Update

Vocês estão de Volta!!!!
(You're back!)
After some restful time, it is great to have you all back!
And with a lot going on in D.Nati's Pal's class!

    We began the year with some thoughtful work on the books that students read
of the break.

       We also had time to concentrate on the two genres that 5th graders will use to take part in the Vivas Palavras 2020 contest: Novice students will write visual poems and Intermediate students will write short stories. This is an ongoing practice meant to prepare students to create original work, when faced with the unexpected theme of the Vivas Palavras contest. For students to be successful, we are practicing by writing using the themes from the previous Vivas Palvras contests, as follows:

Mundos Fantásticos, 2019;
Transforamação, 2018;
Imigração, 2017;
São Paulo, 2016;
Arrependimento, 2015;
Medi, 2014;
Uma carta especial, 2013;
Competição, 2012;

      You can help your child prepare by brainstorming with him/her words related to each theme.
     Last, but not least, starting on Monday, February 3rd, D.Nati's PAL 5 students will use PAL textbooks in classes to keep learning Portuguese. We will use the series Vamos Falar Português 1 & 2, by Susanna Florissi and Anna Claudia Ramos.

    These books will be checked out from our school's catalog and students will be responsible for them until the end of the school year when they are to be returned to the school. We are all very excited to offer these new learning resources, and to contribute to students responsible care of school's property.

Thank you again for all your support!

Best regards,

D.Nati

PAL Updates

      After weeks of hard work at making their river mini
models and practicing for the presentation days,
the 5th grade PAL students had a lot to celebrate and reflect on.
Students reflected on all the project's steps to evaluate
their group performances: what worked well,
what could be improved in next projects.

Congratulations to all PAL students for their dedication, perseverance,
and for completing the project by never giving up despite the obstacles they faced.

Resultado de imagem para kindness in shiny letters

     Lovely KINDNESS stories are waiting for a visit at D.Nati's students' blogs. They have shared stories from their lives in which they'd seen KINDNESS acts among others and have thought of how to include KINDNESS in their everyday routines.
    Here's a little treat:

PALs busy at work!

PAL students have been busy at work on their mini models of rivers that are formed and go through varied landscapes. They have been observing these differences in photos and applying them to their projects. At the same time, students in D.Nati's class have been working on a Maquete journal on their blogs, so that they can reflect  on their projects, plan next steps and teach readers how to build mini models.

PAL Updates

    Students in D.Nati's class have been busy studying the river formation and parts of the rivers, so that they can reproduce their learning in making mini models. Besides that, they have been engaged in writing a Diário da Maquete on their blogs, in which they have been recording the steps of this project as well as what worked well and the glitches they have faced in the project so far.
   Here are two excerpts, but if you want to enjoy the entire maquetes' journals, be sure to access the students's blogs.

  Students in D.Nat's class have been busy working on research projects to learn about the various topics addressed in the shared reading of Maria José Dupré's A Ilha Perdida.
   Students have been engaged in researching the countryside of São Paulo state, where the story takes place, as well as its animals, fruits and trees, the Paraíba river, the typical food from the region and the author. To showcase their learning, varied kinds of technology and resources are being used.
  We will have a sharing moment on May 3Oth, during our PAL class, to other PAL students

Dear parents,

      Students in D.Nati's class have started the unit Aventuras na Literatura Brasileira, which focuses on adventure narratives and the aspects of the genre.

     By engaging in the shared reading of Ricardo Azevedo's O Homem no Sótão and O Leão Adamastor, students have been studying character internal and external traits and how to insert them meaningfully when creating stories. Students will be able to create their own adventure narratives through the study of these mentor texts.
